She received the recognition from Mrs. Swenson for best representing kindness in her class. The North Woods Elementary is focusing on Character Education through the use of the PAWS program . It is an acronym for:
- Practice safety
- Act responsible
- Work towards success
- Show respect
Character traits of the month include respect, kindness, courage and patience, among others. Students that best represent the character trait may be nominated by their classroom teacher, or by their classmates in each grade.

Focusing on character helps to build a positive school environment. This along with the “Blue Pinky Promise” goes hand in hand in putting an end to bullying.
