The 2014 North Woods School Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, January 30th. The eight participants were as follows: 5th- Olivia Fultz, Zoe Trip, 6th- Daniel Crockett, Nicole Olson, 7th- Anna Trip, Ryan Vlaisavljevich, 8th- Kacie Frometa, Brice Rother.

After seven rounds Bryce Rother was awarded the champion speller, with Daniel Crockett in second and Kacie Frometa in third. Our top three spellers will be competing in the District Level Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 4th at 1:30 at the District Office in Virginia. Congratulations Spellers!

Paraprofessionals Appreciation Week
The North Woods staff celebrated Paraprofessionals Appreciation Week with small gifts during the week and a cake on Wednesday afternoon. We are thankful for all they do for the students and staff.

Megan & Darby Earn Academic All-State Honors
Congratulations to senior volleyball players, Megan Brodeen and Darby Youngstrom, for earning Academic All-State Awards for the 2013 volleyball season. This distinct honor recognizes their hard work on and off the court. We are proud of our academic all stars!!!
Fall Sports Banquet
December 8th, 2013, Grizzly athletics celebrated their Fall Sports Banquet. Football, volleyball, and cross-country athletes and parents gathered in the North Woods Commons for the presentation of several earned awards including: team awards, individual honors, conference awards, and All-State awards. Congratulations to all fall sports athletes. Pictured are the seniors who were celebrated for their participation and leadership.
North Woods First Responders
Look at the large number of North Woods students that are certified first responders! Each of these students are certified by the state of Minnesota and some of them are even on the Orr Ambulance crew. These students will begin meeting regularly at school to begin a first responder program that will involve students teaching students how to respond to emergencies.
North Woods Class of 2014
Seniors at North Woods celebrated the beginning of their final year of high school with a banquet in their honor. Classmates created a powerpoint showcasing their baby photos, senior portraits, and favorite photos from previous years. Their advisors shared several senior moments during a skit called, "You Know Who You Are!" Finally, the Class of 2014 looked toward the future and graduation while ordering their caps, gowns, and announcements. The banquet was a great opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of this class, reflect on the past, and focus on the future of the Class of 2014!!! Seniors...enjoy your last year of high school!!!
Darby signed to Northern Michigan University
North Woods High School senior, Darby Youngstrom, signed a NCAA Letter of Intent on November 13th, 2013. By signing this document, she declared that she will attend and play basketball for Northern Michigan University located in Marquette, Michigan. Congratulations Darby and good luck!
Intro to Pow-Wow
North Woods School was busy on Tuesday afternoon! The students were shown what happens at a pow-wow and taught some of the Native American culture!! Mii Gwetch!!!
The School Store recently received new Grizzly Wear items. Mrs. Lamwers was wearing and modeling one of the new zip-up hooded sweatshirts in Carolina Blue.
Students come into the store in the morning before school begins and browse the items in the store. A School Store webpage was recently created and is located under the Home tab.
